heard on the radio that he wanted a raise from 1.3 to 1.5 million, or something like that. dont know how that fits into what the Panthers have left.

still, the guy is such a jackass. however talent wise he would be an upgrade over Colbert05'.
I have seen him get lit up going over the middle. still rather wait and see whats left before looking at him

KJ would be fine by me. I think he's reached a point of realization that he is a #2 option, and wouldn't bitch about not catching more than 60 balls. And we could really use a more physical presence at the position.

I don't think he'll get a significant raise, though a team like Houston or Detroit could be more than willing.

Yasinksas article, I'd forgoten the Johnson/Henning connection

Keyshawn Johnson makes sense for Panthers

On the surface, Keyshawn Johnson seems exactly like the kind of wide receiver the Carolina Panthers don’t want. Maybe, though, he’s exactly what they need.
Sure, Johnson, who was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday, has a checkered past. His feud with coach John Gruden got him run out of Tampa Bay and he often came across as selfish when he was with the New York Jets.
The problems with Gruden are one thing and they don’t look attractive to any team that would consider Johnson. But the selfishness is another thing.
Wide receivers, in general, are selfish. Jerry Rice was all about Jerry Rice. The writers who cover the Panthers on a daily basis used to call Muhsin Muhammad “Leon’’ from the Budwiser commercials. Then, there’s Terrell Owens, who brought selfishness to a new level.
There’s absolutely NO chance the image-conscious Panthers would go after Owens. But Johnson?
It’s not completely out of the realm of possibility. Some of Johnson’s best years came when Dan Henning was the offensive coordinator for the Jets. Johnson calls Henning, who now is with the Panthers, the best coordinator he’s ever played for. Maybe Henning has fond memories of Johnson and could provide the strongest of character witnesses. It might be more of a gamble than the Panthers want to take, particularly if the 34-year-old wide receiver is looking for big money.
Johnson was on his best behavior under coach Bill Parcells in Dallas and maybe that will continue at his next stop. Put the personality aside for a second and Johnson makes total sense. He’s a dependable possession receiver, who could look awfully good opposite Steve Smith.
But the real question here is, can the Panthers put the personality aside?

I'd take him for $1.3, he's still got game and he's always been a willing blocker.

His skils on the field fit what we need very well. The rest is a gamble.

I hadnt seen that article, but I was going to post the fact that Johnson's best years were with Henning. Im not against it, personally. All depends on asking price, if it were up tp me.

Adding him could mean the end for Proehl, so I have mixed feelings about the idea. It would be much better to find the long term solution. Colbert or Carter? I dunno. I still see Colbert as good enough to start, but I wouldn't want him filling in as the number one option. Carter is a keeper, so #81 would be the odd guy out, most likely.

If he can sign for #2 money, then it's worth it. But a team that really needs a wideout, that has more space to work with, would probably make a better offer. If that's the case, we should settle for what we already have. Or look elsewhere.
