    That's because that's not true.

Andy Dalton has played well, but he's played weaker competition, and has the benefit of a run game.

He has a slightly better completion rate, and has thrown almost 20 less times for 300 or so less yards, and averages 3 yards less per pass. He's fumbled once to Cam's 4 pics, but that's a double edged sword to a rookie whose playing aggressive and attacking a Superbowl winning exotic defense with an all world CB playing against his best receiver, who had a shit ton of yards against him.

This is precisely why stats don't tell the whole story. Sigh. Dalton has not been better than Newton by any stretch of the imagination, and I can't imagine a football man who would suggest that if they had a do over at this point in time, that they'd draft Dalton over Newton.

Dalton has played well though, and I don't want to take that away from him.

I didn't say I would draft Dalton over Newton, but a lot of football people including myself said that Dalton would be better this season, and so far he absolutely has been. He's running a conventional offense and being efficient with his chances while avoiding the kind of mistakes that lose games. Cam's three picks against Green Bay weren't because the Packers had set up a great defense that fooled him, but because he made mistakes by trying to force passes into coverage. And you've said yourself about how much he's struggled in the red zone. All that said, Cam has played far beyond my wildest expectations and has been really good for a rookie. But Dalton's been better.

Andy Dalton, to me seems like a game manager type guy. Solid young QB but nothing special.
