Can I use a jigsaw to cut plywood and 2x4's?

Not much, just a few. I am skeerd of a circle saw.

I need a little work space in my garage. I'm not telling Fro til I get all the supplies and have it started so mum is the word.

You can use a jigsaw....but for cutting straight lines, a skilsaw is the ticket and no more dangerous than a jigsaw....just louder.

Mitre Saw. Circular saw on the plywood to get a straighter cut. A jigsaw would be all over the place and take you 10x longer to make a cut. Make Fro do it if you're scared.

The jigsaw will work fine on the plywood. You might want to use some kind of straight edge to guide it, though. I doubt a jigsaw can handle something as thick as a 2x4. If you don't want to use a circular saw, you can always use a good old fashioned hand saw for those, or even a hack saw if it's more comfortable for you.
