If Sapp plays at DE more than DT, which is a possibility, 285 would be ideal in a 3-4.

I don't think they are playing a 3-4. They dropped that.

And he's best as a three technique. At any weight.

Not saying he should stay at 285. I was just suprised he was so heavy last year. And yes, they no longer use the 34, so 290-300 will be fine. And since Terdell Sands is apparently the greatest thing since teenage Asian lesbians, Sapp will probably be the three technique full-time.

JENKINS TIPS THE SCALES AT 384

Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp has lost 49 pounds in the 2007 offseason.

We now know who found it.

A league source tells us that Panthers defensive tackle Kris Jenkins weighed in at last weekend's minicamp at a jaw-dropping (and raising . . . and dropping . . . and raising) 384 pounds.

Jenkins is listed at 335 pounds. So that would put him at 49 pounds over his playing weight.

Before the draft, the veteran run stuffer (and toilet clogger) was on the trading block. And it apparently broke.

The irony here is that Jenkins hates Sapp. As Jenkins once said of Sapp, "He talks too much, he doesn't make sense, he's fat, he's sloppy, he acts like he's the best thing since sliced bread. He's ugly, he stinks, his mouth stinks, his breath stinks, and basically his soul stinks, too."

Who's fat and sloppy now, Kris? Sapp at 285? Or Jenkins at 384 -- a full 99 pounds heavier than No. 99?

On another board, a guy that was there for two days of the mini camps was saying that Jenkins and Peppers were the only ones not getting chewed out during the agility drills. If he's really that heavy and can still move better than all those other guys, that tells you alot about the guy's ability to play the game. Trading him for a 3rd rounder would have been a huge mistake.

I said that from the start, but damn. This isn't real great news.

Being substantially overweight definitely affects balance in a big way. Also decreases stamina and increases strain on joints.

I have no idea why 385 is a surprise.

Did you guys think he was actually staying in shape in the offseason? When has he ever done that? He's so lazy that $175k isn't enough incentive to just get him in the gym.

Anyway, Jenks looks like he always does in April. We'll spend the next 4 months reading about his weight loss efforts, and then in September, barring injury, he'll kick ass like he always does.
