Are we going with a 2 RB set, or is one of these guys starting at FB?

But doesn't the article say we tendeed Robertson, or do I need to go back and re-read it?

    Tendered and 1 year.

"the agent for restricted free agent running back Jamal Robertson said the team had tendered his client a one-year, $656,000 contract".

no need to re-read it. Brain's taking something that happened with a couple other players and applying it to Jamal. He reads the observer too much. :)

    I think he's suggesting a 2 back rotation(foster/davis), which we should use.

I would include all backs as the "depth" of the position. But he does have a point about who's behind the top 2. Personally, I feel good about it. I trust that Goings can carry the load, he has. Robertson has shown flashes in SF, and seems like a good runner based on his KR's. Harris looked good at times in the preseason, and had a couple of nice runs in the Seattle game before getting hurt. But I don't see him doing anything better than a spot on the PS. Smart is the biggest question mark, imo. He missed the last 13 games of the year, has never been a great returner (other than the TD in '03), and hasn't looked too good in the offense.

Yeah, on all counts. He was a good return man (and I wanted to see more out of him), and we did sign Smart (for whatever reason - he's a freaking special teamer, 4 years?).

Here's my only problem with this. Robertson's tender for RFA costs us around $650,000. He's not worth that. He's not going to get picked up, he'd probably float for a good while if he was a free agent. We could've had him for the minimum, and if we didn't, we'd live.

As for RB depth, it's not out of bounds to think we could still draft a back. But the weird as hell thing is, we've got a 4 year deal under a 3rd string/returner, and now a $650,000 contract under HIS backup, another back who returns (but doesn't return punts). It's very hard to see Robertson actually make the team right now. It's also very hard to see us make a move to add a back when we have no room for him, much less for the big contract we just put under yet another special teamer.

yep, that extra $300k on SEVERAL of those guys would go a long way toward a good FA pickup. Fuck the dumb shit.

Just like last year. It was said "well, these guys will get cut and they won't count." But they kept counting until they did get cut, which isn't when you need that money. Except for the ones that get injured, and then you're stuck with the bill anyway.

Just a couple hundred thousand's difference, five times over, is a mil. We could've signed a safety for what we put into Tillman and Richardson, and had room left over, last year.
