Occam's razor. The simplest explanation is that Carter is inconsistent and Colbert sucks.

It's always been about Smitty. Funny thing in 04 when Smitty broke his ankle and the team started 1-7; after things settled down and we had a semi consistant starting lineup, Jake pretty much put the O on his back and almost got us in the playoffs. Well... then it was all about Moose. Tell me, if it was because of Moose, why hasn't Moose made Rex Grossman look better? Moose had his biggest year ever yardage wise in 04. He's never been the YAC guy that Smith is... Moose had 16 TDs that year, in the 4 season before that he only had 13 TDs total. Grossman was injured in 05 but in 06 Moose only had 863 yards and 5 TDs. He's the #1; where the numbers at?

I'm not arguing that Smith isn't the most explosive WR in the game because I think he is too. I wouldn't trade him for another WR in the league. I know he helps Jake's numbers; all great WRs help their QBs numbers. In the 11 games he played with Jake last year, he averaged 6.6 catches a game and 94.8 yards a game with 8 TDs. Shouldn't his numbers with Weinke be better or at least similar? I mean Weinke throws a better ball and to hear people last year hollering to sit Jake and play Weinke, you'd think the numbers would be better right? How about 3.3 catches and 41 yards a game with 0 TDs.

In a few years when we've got the next Jeff Lewis in at QB I guess some of you will be happy...:stirthepot:

    1. Grossman sucks.
    2. Moose is getting old- he is more of a complimentary receiver playing a number one role in spite of his body slowing down- we all can see that lovie will never pull a player (see entry one) who is doing bad because he is stubborn.

Moose is older now, but Bernard Berrian made Grossman look better. Remember how much people were crowing about him early last season before he went in the tank? Plus Chicago is such a solid team that they don't like to take risks. Henning loved the deep ball anyway, but in '04 we were so far down the crapper that no one felt uncomfortable with taking risks through the air. Moose and Jake got pretty good at the chuck and heave, but I wouldn't necessarily say that either one of them was the type to carry a conventional offense.
Weinke held on to the ball too long, and the receivers he was most familiar with were the second teamers he practiced with every week.

It's kinda funny, we've got a QB with a 112 QB rating and we're arguing about him. Like Collin said in another thread, he's not even in the top 25 list of problems from Sunday. (or something similar) We're wasting time here; we need a thread about how piss poor the execution of the D was on Sunday...

He threw ground balls. Accuracy is part of throwing.

And his outs to the left had less velocity than even Jake's.

Yes Jake's getting criticized but least no one is screaming for Carr to start. Progress.
