If he had been here all off season I suspect he would be starting ahead of Newton, at least to start the year. That would really be better for the team and Newton but it is too late now. Even if we signed Garrard it will take him a while to learn the offense. He probably wants to go to a place with out a guy like Newton who is going to be given every chance in the world to keep the starting job. He probably starts right away for the 49ers or Redskins.

Thats nonsense that he would need to learn the offence. The guy is a veteran QB and I am sure they can acclimate him much quicker than Newton. This is a perfect mentor for Newton....on or off the field. This is the guy that could make us a respectable team. I see us with 2-3 wins this season with Newton. I say was would be much better with a chance to win more games. We don't need another horrible season. I would definetly bring him in!!

This. Plus the injury thing, and the fact his teammates didn't elect the guy team captain when he's been one the past 2 seasons.

JDR told SiriusXM yesterday that Garrard had slipped to #3 on the depth chart, that he had lost his intermediate range accuracy, and "just couldn't get it going".

He also said that McCown outplayed him in every way. I haven't seen any JAX pre-season games, but I have a hard time believing that.

can't believe that garrard wouldn't at least be brought in for a chat . .. if he was 50 lbs overweight and was blind in one eye he'd be an upgrade over Anderson

Yeah it's pretty much been written in stone that we weren't gonna have an open competition.

JDR has lost what is left of his mind. He will be a DC or linebackers coach if he has a job at all next year.

I doubt Del Rio had much say in the matter. His job is gone if they don't make the playoffs and if he had the say so in this I doubt he'd want his paycheck on the line with McCown or Gabbert at QB. Garrard was due 9 million this season and since JDR doesn't sign the checks I'm thinking this is from someone higher up the food chain than the HC.
