Hypothetically, what if the other receivers and tight ends are so inept that in Jake's mind, Smitty had a better shot of getting the ball in quadruple coverage than the other guys had in single?

Yes, he was. So were about 15 more of the 22 starters that took the field in Seattle. And so were the coaches.

I'm thinking maybe his 1.6 QB rating at the half and 36.something QBR overall last week?

But no, that doesn't change the big picture of what kind of a QB Jake really is. Right now, the 2006 NFCCG is an abhorration. I hope it stays that way.

At the risk of getting into semantics, would a better word here be 'attempts'? Seems like bad decision making would precipitate stupid attempts, but bad mechanics would precipitate bad throws, no matter where he was attempting to throw the ball.

Then we either need to dump all the other receivers if that's really the problem, or change Jake's mind if that's the problem or both.

Either Jake has a problem throwing to, targetting, looking for, etc. any other dood other than his 'go to' dood, or we have nobody else worth a sheit. Because, as evidenced the past two seasons, one dood's the playmaker and the others are just filler.

THe gasoline that got us to the Superbowl in 03 was the Moose/Smitty tandem. Davis obviously powered us plenty that year, and the defense was adequate. We need another WR, and theres no question to it.

Colbert is so astoundingly disappointing, and I just dont get it. BUt WR honestly has to be one of our top priorities.

Boy did I stir up a crock. My point was never to bash Jake. But I think HasBeen99 made my point. Does Jake have confidence in the other receivers? Or is a case of feed the stud? Maybe a better title is called for. But Jake does throw to Smitty alot and when he was taken out nobody else stepped up.

I'd say he has confidence in Proehl. He had confidence in Foster.

But he'd throw to guys that hadn't earned that confidence, whether they had it or not.

In this particular game, our game plan, at least initially, did play into what they were doing. They played looser later, but they had safties up early and aggressive corner play. So to a certain extent the short to intermediate routes we ran initailly hurt us. Particuarly vs an aggresive cover 2. I'd like to have sent Ricky on a seam route. That would have been open the way they were playing, and Ricky could have beaten it. We did that with Carter, though it was 17 zip by then.

So it was a combo of Colbert and RP struggling to beat the coverage, and our initial gameplan over the first half playing largely into what they had gameplanned us for.
