Our mastiff ran right the fuck through ours and went off on our neighbor's maid. As in trapped her next to her garbage cans until we noticed.

    LOL.

    So, we built a fence.:bobby:

I/the family always used an electric wire/fence. It ran from the driveway gate, all around the yard's perimeter, back to the gate. Once the dog touched it a couple of times we didn't even need to turn the power on. He'd stop dead in his tracks two feet away from the wire.

I've heard of some dogs learning that the shock only hurts for a second or two and they just run through the invinsible fence. Guess they can tolerate the pain as long as they can get out.

    Depends on the dog

We bought an invisible fence for our Lab and installed it ourselves. He trained well at first. Then he started ignoring it. Finally, to see if it was working....we took him to the line with his collar on. He sat right on the fence line and gave no indication he felt anything. But, when you touched his neck you could feel the electrical impulses!!! Didn't phase him!!:omg:

Needless to say we dug up the fence and sold it. Then purchased a 4ft picket fence to the tune of $3000. Less than a year later we moved and had to install another $3500 fence. Now the dog won't go outside unless someone is with him.....What did I need a fence for again??

There's probably more electricity coursing though an above ground wire fence than the buried/invisible type. I found that if you touch the dog's nose to an electric wire/fence he'll respect it from then on; I believe it took two touches for one dog, which was unusual.

They work great, because your dog feels more free and it keeps people you don't want out of the yard for fear of getting bit.

Buy a paint ball gun or sling shot for "other" dogs. I tagged the neighbor's mutt a couple times with the sling shot and he stopped shitting in the yard.

    Here
So far he really hasn't been that much of a runner. He and Yinzer did go for a brief run yesterday morning, and it cracked me up to watch. We took him to Petsmart yesterday. I'm relatively sure it was his first time. He's in need of some socialization.
