I wasn't thinking Rivera had as much say over the decision to take Newton as that article suggests.

OTOH, I guess JR said we're taking QB #1 before he hired him.

    Sometimes here, sometimes there

as long as that QB had no tats, clean haircut and an extra large penis.

There's a big difference in facing off the field adversity at the college level and on the field adversity in the NFL. Newton probably has never been booed in his team's home stadium...yet.

Not worried about Newton's ability to deal with getting booed, but I am concerned that he might not know how to deal with losing.

I notice Rivera in interviews - this one included saying 'I', not 'we'. Most of what I have read has me thinking that these are no longer 'Panther' decisions and are instead Rivera decisions. I like that accountability.

Also, JR in his interview with Morgan Fogarty made a strong statement to the fact that Rivera was firmly in charge with his leadership.

Rivera and Newton will be forever linked as HC and QB. Rivera seems to be fostering that link and basically making it an integral part of his young HC career. I hope it works out for him because he is putting it all on the line - emphatically.

I wanted a solid DT. Didn't want Newton. Figured he'd be another gangster. But after going to Spartanburg it's hard not to be drawn to his personality. Watching him was fun. Granted this does not translate to very much on the field but I think they are looking for the leadership. He has alot of things going against him. No off season work outs, new offense for the team, one of the strongest divisions in the NFL, weak receivers and a suspect OL and a losing season. Let's just hope he can pull some magic out of his ass.

all he has to do is make us believe this year. he can go 4-12, but if he shows the potential and progress, we'll believe. been a while around here, and it would be a real fucking nice feeling. if he shows it, fa's will come (specially wr's), fans will come and life will be grand in panther land - and we'll all be excited during the offseason, like it used to be around here. i can barely remember that feeling, but the big black dude w/ the infectious smile, the mexican, the chud, maybe mcd, i have a little hope. goddamit i'd like to be excited this coming offseason. come on panthers.
