I think this should be "WHEN" Moose leaves. I have a bad feeling about this.

    • MUHAMMAD UPDATE: The Panthers should get a good idea of how to proceed in the offseason in the next few days.

Joel Segal, the agent for wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad, said Friday he planned to sit down with Panthers officials this week to talk about extending the Pro Bowl wide receiver's contract. Both parties will be in Mobile, Ala., for Senior Bowl practices.

The two sides have talked in general terms in recent weeks, though nothing substantive has emerged.

If the Panthers can't reach agreement on a long-term deal, they'll release the 31-year-old receiver before they'd have to pay him a $10 million roster bonus on March 1.

If they can't work out something with Muhammad, they'll have to find a physical complement to Steve Smith and Keary Colbert in free agency or the draft.

Actually, if the budget allows, I wouldn't mind having Armstead next year for depth. I think it would benifit our defensive scheme and our special teams to have another experienced linebacker in the rotation.

Honestly, if Richardson's only a SS, and comes back as a special teams player, and is healthy, then he's a good player at the minimum. This $825k shit's gotta go, and I'd still rather have a healthy young player than the fifteen percent chance that we actually get Richardson on the field.

So Armstead - I wouldn't mind him back IF we sign Witherspoon to a long term deal right off the bat rather than going RFA. If not, then it might be a place to draft a 4th or 5th round special teams player who'll provide weakside depth. It doesn't matter, neither player would replace Witherspoon, but there's a small chance that the draft pick could contribute in 2006 part time, where I don't see that from Armstead.

Unfortunately for Gaines, being able to catch the ball is a requirement.

This is true. He also struggles to get open and doesn't block well. Besides being unable to catch, get open, and/or block, Gaines is a pretty good TE.

Peppers is probably a better TE than any of 3 real ones.
