We're in a short-term mess, in my opinion. I don't feel we're staring down a Detroit situation here.

Fox being a lame duck is not very fun, especially losing in the fashion that we do. It's a bad year, but the NFL allows for very bad teams to turn their shit around overnight.

Honestly, with a new HC will come a better overall staff. Jerry's going to spend money, but again, he's going to do it with measurement. Not throwing 10 mil at an HC, and going cheap in other areas. His pal Rooney didn't even interview any "big dollar names" when Cowher resigned. He went with Tomlin, and I'm thinking he got him for less than 4 mil. Retained some of the strenghts of the staff, and moved forward.

This team needs, desperately, an consistent starting QB, who can build continuity with Gettis, Lafell and the backs. I leave Smith out because I am starting to get a real feeling that we will voluntarily trade him for either a player of need and a pick, or just a high-round pick. I love Smith's energy, but the production has been lacking. And I still think he's a top-tier WR. But there's the well-documented financial end of all of this to contend with.

Just for shits and giggles, I'd like to see this team of misfits stick one in John Harbaugh's asshole this weekend. And then, continue to piss off a bunch of bubble teams. Why the hell not?

St. Pierre? He's not a joke--he's been around for a while. My only concern with the decision is it shows a lack of confidence in a QB you drafted, and who has been with the team since April with the playbook, some reps and an overall feel for the offense. But, who knows--maybe BSP is one of these Ryan Fitzpatrick, off the chart IQ types who can pick it up in a week, run in with precision, and win a game.

I just know it's not that hard to win a game in the NFL with Steve Smith as your best offensive player, and Jon Beason as your best defensive player. As we saw against what has turned out to be a fairly good SFO team, all it takes is efficiency, converting in the red zone, winning the turnover battle and getting a couple breaks.

Shit, we're due. I might even go to this motherfuckin' game.

your list especially illustrates my contention. you left off some picks though, which if they were intended to be the future or not, they were wasted picks all the same. how could you forget fasani, lafors and basanez!

signing a vet as a bandaid is the only thing fox-hurney have demonstrated they could do with any success rate in regards to qb. we'll eagerly make deals for a de that gets tossed around like a toy, a rt that has shown a frequency for leg ailments...not good for a big guy and a tackle, a project-whatever-he-is that doesn't even dress on sunday, and take a luxury pick of a rb with continuous foot problems...but...nada at qb. we didn't need another creaky vet, or another brian st. elsewhere, or david damn carr then. now we do because the cupboard is bare bones, and it's pure silliness to think fox wasn't allowed to pursue a quality young qb. he chose different directions. so, yes, look at the division, and not only did we not make a play for brees, because i suppose 1-armed delhomme still gave us the best chance to win, but we also missed on other young qbs that are certainly superior to our prospects so far.

We had more talent on this team than 1-8. He threw in the towel, has had a shit attitude since he didn't get a new deal, it's showing. That's my opinion. It's not gonna change.

Yeah, his final trick will be to win another meaningless game or two (like he does at the end of every wasted year), cost us about 8 draft positions, and then laugh as he takes the Cowboys HC job.
Fire him today, it's basically a conflict of interest he's still here.

So then you believe this season's utter failure to be NFL level football is only personnel????

Have you missed the abyssmal clock/game management? The highly predictable offensive play-calling?
