    Yes.

Moore was clearly their best bet, and when he did play, he certainly played at a higher level than Clausen, particularly in 2009. Then again, more vets on the team in 2009--then, we all saw what happened to Moore.

It was going to be a bad year. Lame-duck coach, strong-willed owner, looming labor issues. I had very high hopes that we would rely on a dominant running game, and what appeared to be a potentially dominant defense in camp.

But, my god, supporting cast or not, Clausen is just fucking up every opportunity he has right now. No fire, and more importantly, poor execution. The 9-route to 89 tonight was a great example. Corner playing outside technique, safety trailing well behind, and Clausen puts a relatively easy throw on 89's right shoulder, down the right sideline. Fucking Jonathan Quinn bad.

Yeah only the really delusional people thought we'd win anything this year but it wasn't unreasonable to expect a lot more than what we got.

I was on record early on as opposed to Clausen playing, for his sake as well as the W-L numbers. It's played out predictably, cost us a season and may have cost him a career.

I certainly pre-assessed this season at 8-8. I saw Moore carrying a good deal of momentum and confidence over from 2009. I saw the potential for a 3rd consecutive dominant rushing year. And, against playoff teams, the defense was by far the NFL's best unit in the pre-season.

Then again, Smith missed camp with his issue, and we ended up sending 13+ players to IR, including potential pro-bowl starters:

    • Otah
    • Davis
    • Wharton
    • DW
Not to mention other players who probably, collectively, would have assisted us in a few more wins:

    • Connor
    • Moore
    • Jason Williams
    • Charly Martin
    • Wallace Wright
    • E-Brown
No excuses, but when you're the youngest team in the NFL to begin the season, and you end up slapping 14 players on IR, it's crippling.

I'm over Clausen, mostly because it's like being punch drunk. I can't deny he has talent, I can't deny he could become something. Sitting 11 and playing 12 if he's ready.

Without Luck, I'd have to have a hard time finding another QB that would be a big upgrade as a rookie. We'd need a vet QB either way, so then you're muddying the position further. I'd go to where I was a month ago - hoping for a partner to trade, get the 2nd rounder reclaimed so you have 5 picks in the top 100.

And, to both go toward strength and give the unit some youth, I'd lean toward DT.
