I was changing my heatsink and as I pulled my old one off, my processor stuck to it (the paste had hardened). I've got everything put back together, but now nothing works. When I plug the power cord into the power supply, all the fans start running, but everything else is unresponsive. Even the power switch doesnt work to turn the fans on/off.

Could this all be due to the trauma to the processor of being unseated? Any recommendations? I really dont want to spring for a new mobo/processor right before christmas.

Did you clean the old thermal paste off and dabbed a little more back on, spread it before you put the HS&F back on?

are you sure you put it in the correct way?

check the pins to make sure they're still all there....

Anyway......just put the essentials in...your mobo, ram, processor with HSF, video card....and try to boot up

there should be a jumper on your board to reset it. move the jumper... boot... move it back and boot again.

tried it, no luck. However, now the powwer switch on the front of the computer works to turn it on, but not to turn it off (I have to use the switch on the back of the power supply). When I turn it on, I get no POST beep and it never goes as far as to start reading the hard drive.

this may sound like a stupid question, but you did reconnect the power supply to the board didn't you?
