If evolution is constant and ongoing and someday there will be something better than us, it stands to reason that some are closer to that 'better thing' than others? Facepalm all you want, but that is a truth if you believe that there will be something better to eventually evolve.

You either believe it or you don't, and if you believe it, there are certain unpopular tangential truths you have to either accept or admit you're inconsistent. But that requires thinking further out than what's immediately in front of you.....and why would I expect you'd change anything now?

i think he was using "better" in the sense that scrappy used it, to illustrate that a subjective measure of "superiority" is fleeting.

there is no objective "better" in terms of evolution. if something does its job well enough to survive, it does.
