Yeah, I hate all talk radio but listened on the way home from camp the other day and Gross was talking about him benching 450 ten times (unfortunately Gross also joked about how he hates lifting weights :teeth:). I also remember seeing highlights of him around the draft where he was moving very well in space, which I think is why we got our hopes up that he would contribute last season.

I actually work with a buddy of his that went to Alabama with him. This guy says Mathis is very focused and dedicated to being a dominant player. I heard on WFNZ that Jerry Simmons, who is the Panthers strength coach says he is the strongest player they've ever had. He said he benches over 600 and squats over 800.

Yeah, Mathis had measurables similar to that at combine. I remember the reps (and after the fact, loved that we drafted a guy who could actually lift), but I don't remember the 4.9. Fordham apparently likes to exaggerate to get his name in the paper.
Naturally, Wahle's comments were the interesting ones.

don't get me started on Gross.

Gross looks like someone that still has baby fat. He's pudgy, you know? He has no definition at all.

For the record, Mathis ran a 4.97 at the combine (second fastest among OL that year), although it's possible he's gotten a little faster since then.

I do like the idea of him going back and training with his pre-draft guy again. A lot of guys, in the offseason, don't get a good regimented workout schedule when they're away from the team for years, if they stick that long.

The thing that bothers me about Gross is what he COULD be.
