    then what?

it is a brand new computer and has only been running about three or four weeks. i am using the anti-virus/firewall protection that charter includes with their service. i have heard panda is better, it works well for me at work. just dont know what might have happened to cause it to do this and how to prevent it from happening again.

at your screen i think it gives you several choices .. boot up in safe mode ...

has someone sent you any files the last few days...

you might want to disable the firewall to see if thats your problem.

What good would booting in safe mode do her if she doesn't know what to fix once there?

Log on to that screen... Press control+alt+delete twice. This will bring up an alternative login screen. See if you can log on using the Administrator password that you set up when you first got the PC.

If this works let me know and we can move on from there.
