No one is above being replaced by a bunch of average guys.

Sometimes I think we'd be better off without Steve Smith and with a slew of average receivers.

To be a good team you need a couple of star players and then solid guys every where else. If you try to fill every position with stars then you are likely going to leave holes in your team. My point is not that an elite DT would not help us but that an elite DT is no necessary as long as you have some solid guys to rotate and have stars at other spots. With Beason, Davis, Peppers and Gamble we should be able to fill out the rest of the defense with role players and be pretty darn good. Unfortunately we are playing guys who are below "roll player" stats at DT and safety right now.

The problem on D goes beyond a lack of talent though. Either Meeks' system sucks or our guys are not picking it up yet.

Meeks' 'tampa 2' system has historically had the most success with an elite DT at the under tackle spot.
I like how peppers goes from:
to a guy we should build around. Role, BTW.

they like Lewis, but he's gotta show he can be that guy in this system - alternately it'd help to have a real player at the NT spot too. I'm sure Lewis has to stay at home more.

But while this scheme is ideal for Lewis, would still like to see it happen.
