I think if they are all playing poorly, then the coaching staff is to blame for poor game planning. If they adjust, and play better, then those same coaches deserve credit.

An entire team not playing well in terms of x's & o's falls on coaching. A team not executing falls on players.

So far, the Panthers are 3-2, and with a tad more "jam" could be 5-0. I say players not executing is bigger issue than coaches and planning. :twocents:

I'm saying that we need to do what you suggested and hold the players accountable. You said that and then turned right around and gave them a free pass in the next sentence by blaming it on the coaches. Peppers has had the same problems throughout his college and professional career. Rucker is aging and Buckner is aged. Jenkins is gone. Moorehead and Carstens are limited. Minter is aging and has always had problems with coverage and wrapping up. McCree was let go by Houston for the same reasons he's struggling now. Gamble has regressed, but he was never an aggressive corner at OSU either.

I blame the coaches for putting Minter at FS, but that's about it. As already noted, I genuinely don't think that coaching has much of an effect at all in the NFL outside of scheme, which hasn't been much of a problem for us. It's a players' league, and our players haven't been playing up to their capabilities. Fortunately we're 3-2, with plenty of time to get it right. And when we do play well, you can be sure that I will be giving credit to the players and not so much to the coaches.

I just want to see them wrap up on the tackle and do something about Gamble. If we do these two things we can live with the rest and do good things this year.

How would you go about holding the players accountable? Who would do this?

I'd get replacements for them next season, but there isn't a lot you can do right now except exhort them to play better.

So curious as to past situations where teams have had new coaches, not always the head coach come in, with basically the same players and it made an impact?

Are you going to change out 75% of your roster? Or do you get rid of a couple of the worst offenders and replace them with players like Lucas? Do the players who aren't giving it all do better for a players coach?

So, since the coaches are blameless, you are saying this season is a wash because we can't change out the roster?

Not if the players play better. Was Bill Parcells a bad coach last season and a good one this season? Joe Gibbs? Jon Gruden? They either got new players or the old ones played better.

Miami changed over half their team. San Francisco didn't.

In 2 out of your 3 examples, the teams were playing ok, just had bad play from the QB position. Washington and Dallas now have much better play at the QB position and the team consequently wins. I don't think our team falls into this category so much, although Jake certainly could take better care of the football. What I am saying is, I don't think we are a QB away from being a dominant team, ala Washington.

Tampa falls more in line with your argument, the players are playing better, and their (so far) weak schedule has helped them win games.
