How does the NBA really feel about Shinnridge?

I just read this article on CBS Sportsline:

"As the Owners Turn continued to get interesting this week, as Rich DeVos changed his mind about selling the Orlando Magic when it was becoming apparent nearly all of the prospective buyers wanted to move the club. Meanwhile, Charlotte Hornets owners George Shinn and Ray Wooldridge turned down a fat offer from billionaire BET founder Robert Johnson to keep them in Charlotte. The NBA is thrilled DeVos doesn't want to sell the Magic, but Johnson would be the first African-American owner in the NBA, and the league would prefer a new arena in Charlotte over Shinn and Wooldridge retaining the club and moving it to New Orleans."

Please read closely the last sentence, especially that last part about the league preferring the Hornets to be in Charlotte with a new arena than in NO with Shinnridge.

I really don't think the Hornets are going anywhere.

I think the NBA is pretty much fed up with Shinn and his shenanagins.

They even subpoenaed David Stern during his trial. That was an embarassing moment for the NBA.

They secretly wanted Shinn to sell to MJ when he offered to buy into them. They knew Michael coming back to the NBA in any fashion would boost the NBA. Plus they really do want more black owners. For a league dominated by black Americans and having no black owners looks bogus.

They really don't want to move the team.

Everybody talks about the clause in the arena deal about having new owners is big detriment to us keeping the team here. But I think Shinnridge turning down a lucrative offer from Johnson looks just as bad.

I think I'd look pretty bad if someone offered me a ridiculous amount of money for my wedding ring... I'll take a 1000.00 bucks for it right now and take my wife one one heck of a vacation!

How can you say that he's an idiot for turning down the offer? How much was it for? How much is the team worth? The market is depressed right now, why sell at the bottom? He has a city that wants him so bad they're practically giving him an arena to move in. In 3 years in NO, his team will likely be worth way more than it is now.

How can you say that SP? They havent sold half the tickets they said they had to sell to move and the deadline is coming up. Shinn said he would extend the deadline though. Kinda like that Seinfeld "Anyone can take a reservation. The important part is keeping the reservation." Anyone can set a deadline.......

Shinn is desparate.

Hey Nut, relax man, I was joking about him being an idiot... or was I? I do not agree, though, that after three years the team will be worth more money. His leadership has driven the value of his franchise down for several years now. He'd be getting free money from NOLA. What would his incentive be to change his penny pinching ways? Why care about marketing his market? His income would be state guaranteed. Hey, I just realized that if they move to NOLA, Shinny would be the biggest recipient on their welfare role! Or would that be Tom Benson?

Super I said that because the NBA doesn't ever really want to move a team. I think they even said something about if Charlotte had an arena deal and a legit buyer that would pay at least 200 mil that that could be a bases for letting the team remain in Charlotte.

Shinn could be shooting himself in the foot because if the NBA does block the move and he is forced to stay in Charlotte he will just continue to lose millions and down the road he may end up
having to sell for a lot less than Johnson offered.

They say "Oh you can't force an owner to sell his business" but in the case of a franchise if you aren't cutting the mustard they can take your franchise away. The force to sell would come in as keep the team and continue to lose millions or sell.

So if the owners can do anything they want with their business why are they having to go through the NBA to get approval to move?
