they play a 4th place schedule, which must be nice at their record. They have a top passing attack and might actually fix their defensive and running game issues. I've had similar concerns.

The premise of the question allows for the possibility of a new coordinator and scheme.

    Valid, but should they try?

I could give a shit who "coordinates" Fox's defense. All I want to see is DB's not sucking dick.

should we try to come up with a top player? Sure. We were willing to spend $13+ million on a player, we could do so. If we hold $17 million in cap and end up getting a first round pick contributing, and bring in another player with that money under the cap we'd been sitting on for Peppers' tag, we can continue to be competitive.

If Peppers was our only option for success we'd do anything we could to keep him. It could still happen, I guess, just as there's a chance that he does stay, but both of those are pretty slim.

There will not be a new scheme as long as Fox is here, and he certainly will be next season, so that part of your question is irrelevant.
I don't even understand the question. You always try to add great players if you can afford them.

I think it's possible we go with a more aggressive scheme under a different DC. If you don't, then you can discount that possibility.

As to the player issue, the Panthers have generally concentrated on mid-range free agents rather than "name" guys that get all the attention.

The question is can they build the kind of defense that wins a championship with that strategy, or does losing a star player like Peppers mean that you must replace him with another "star"?

There may be more aggressive calls, but I wouldn't count on it.

the scheme has gotten more aggressive over time, but a one-gap 4-3 isn't going to become a 3-4. And we don't have it to pull that off either.

I don't think pressure was the problem. I think having to blitz this much already was a concern.
