    2010 NFL Standings:

    8-2:

    ATL
    NE
    NYJ

    7-3:

    BAL
    CHI
    GB
    NO
    PHI
    PIT
    TB

All but one (Belichick) were hired with no NFL head coaching experience. Many (Mike Smith, Mike Tomlin, Raheem Morris, Sean Payton, Mike McCarthy) were seen as questionable hires.

It's not like this is groundbreaking news, but it does show that the candidate(s) some here do not want may just end up being the best fit. You'd like to see a strong assistant, with some credentials of success, bring in a good team of assistants with a cerebral approach.

I'll say it: I don't think we're a very intelligent team, from a coaching perspective. We look, typically, to win with brute force, but we lack a sense of innovation and flexibility. It's not only 2010--we've dropped the ball in several 7-9/8-8 seasons that could have been 10-6 with a better approach.

Who knows. I have very few answers--just opinions. But the facts above don't lie.

All that's good, but on the other hand Super Bowl winning coaches have generally had previous head coaching experience before the team they won with. So if you're looking to take the next step for the franchise, it probably wouldn't hurt to look for someone with previous experience.

I'll also say that if you take the overall picture for the last five seasons, I'd say our team has been as good as most of the teams on that list. So aspiring to be one of the top ten teams in any given season isn't really what I'd like the goal to be.

I would be happy seeing Meeks be the next HC and bring in a new OC or see us hire a HC with a strong back ground in offense and keep Meeks as DC.

Guy was a good coach when he wasn't fighting Dom's cap issues or having the rug pulled out from under him. What he went through in 01 is what Fox is going through now.
