It was pretty obvious they weren't hitting shots. He was right that it would be difficult for him to carry them to victory bombing threes, and they would have likely lost big anyway.

But this is game 7, ain't no tommorrow. It wouldn't likely have made any difference, but maybe he could have kept them in striking distance until the other guys started hitting shots and remembered how to play defense.

anyone else think Phil is over rated? Needs to have 2 of the best players in the game (at the time) to win a title.

You could argue this was one of his best coaching jobs. Lakers improved, what, 10 games or so, with basically the same lineup? And then took the #2 seed to 7 games, and were a rebound away from winning it in 6? Phil can coach. Make no mistake, these Lakers kind of suck. They overachieved.

Usually it takes two top line players to win a title, sometimes more. Bird/McCale/Parish, Magic/Kareem/Worthy, Thomas/Dumars, Duncan/Robinson. Got to have players.

yeah, but didn't he do that in game 6? he went off for 50 and they lost.

historically speaking, kobe scores a lot against the suns and the lakers lose to them. with kobe not taking every shot, the lakers actually played them really, really tight. the lakers blew so many gimmes that it's not like kobe was going to open up their game by scoring. the only thing he would have done was take the ball away from them.

plus, they gave up 121 points with only 1 offensive rebound and 10 turn-overs. 61% shooting overall for the suns. doesn't really matter if kobe is dragging ass on offense of not, they were screwed from that side of the game.

In overtime. He kept them in it.

It was probably too late, Suns were a better team. But leave the cartridge empty.

Not really. there have been other teams with two or more superstars that didn't win six titles in seven years (Bulls). not too may teams that win it all do so with shitty players.

maybe so, Grid, but all the Jackson jock-riders make me sick....he won 6 in 8 in Chicago, then goes to LA and wins 2(?) with Shaq/Kobe....he has 1 bonafide star in Kobe and gets cracked in round 1.

I think it's Kobe who's overrated, not Phil.

The radio guys (national) are really blasting Kobe all but saying he all but stopped giving a shit in the second half. He is fast leaving the MJ comparisons and joining the Scottie Pippen comparisons. I also heard where 20-25 who voted for the MVP didn't even have Kobe listed at all. I think he is the equivalent to Bonds as being a self absorbed cock sucker but he is still a great player
