As soon as I plug it in the little balloon pops up, I tried rebooting with it connected but it won't even get past the MB screen.

It is not a drive letter issue, don't need to go into computer management. It sounds like you might have a USB 2.0 device being plugged in to a USB 1.1 port (but the device is supposed to work in that config according to their web site). Try taking it to another computer (maybe one at the store where you bought it), validate that the expected behavior takes place SOMEWHERE, and then find out what's wrong with your computer from there. I'm strongly guessing it's hardware related at this point - in one case I had a computer that had front and back USB ports, but they were the SAME ports, so if you plugged into both, STRANGE stuff would happen. Plug into either set alone and it worked fine. Experiment and get back to us.

Do other USB devices you have work? Or is this the first time you've tried to use the USB ports?

did you try installling the disk anyway?

maybe you could try Lexar's website

*I installed XP Pro on a brand new set up and I had to update the BIOS in order for XP to recognize my on board USB. Actually, I installed XP, the USB didn't work (plus other things didn't too), then updated the BIOS, and had to reinstall XP.

You prob don't have to go there, but I'm guessing it's your computer...

I pulled the speaker USB out of the back and plugged in the reader, worked like a champ. I have an addon USB for this MB, think if I hook it up the reader will on it work? My MB has 2USB in the back 2 in the front and a 2 port addon that plugs into the MB. I also have a 2 USB port pci card I could try.
