Here's the scene. A group of over-the-hill, pot-bellied guys on their annual outing away from their neurotic wives, pencil-dicked bosses and smart-aleck kids have just come back in to their beach house after 45 holes of golf and pounding-back more that just a few six-packs all day on a dog-day August afternoon (and you're up a couple of hundred - you were in the zone, baby!), pizza's been ordered from the local mom & pop, the cards have been broken out and they're all fixin to rehash their best stories from their glory days. What do ya suggest for some tunes after car-pooling your kids and listening to B. Spears, N'Sync and D. Mathews for the past 12 months? Here's my start:

Take this job and shove it -- Paycheck
Sunday morning coming down - Kris K.
    Here's a Quarter - Tritt
Member of a County Club - Tritt
Amazing Grace (use to be her favorite song) -- (??)
Don't Rock that Jukebox - Jackson
    Long gone - H. Williams+
    Family Tradition - Hank Jr.
    Hound dog - Elvis
    Dang Me - R. Miller
Battle of New Orleans - ??
    Hello Darlin - Twitty
You never called my name - Coe
    Redneck Mother - Jerry Jeff
Okie from Muskogie, OK - Haggard
    Lukenbach, TX - Jennings
    Lucille - Rogers
    Ruby - Rogers
Ya got to know when to fold them - Rogers
    Wanted man - J. Cash
    Leroy Brown - Croce
Ya don't mess around with Jim - Croce
    Take it easy - Eagles
    Desperado - Eagles
Waisted days and waisted nights - Fender
One more last chance - Gill

maybe throw in some southern rock (and now i really need help as my parents didn't allow me to listen to rock)

    Alabama - Skynard
    Gimme Three Steps - Skynard
    What's your name - Skynard
    Dixie - Black Oak Arkansas
Jim Dandy - Black Oak Arkansas
    Ramblin man - Allman brothers
Jesus is just alright - Doobie Brothers (are they southern rock?)
    Black Water - Doobie Bros
One bourbon, one scotch one beer - Thorogood
Move it on over - Thorogood
    LaGrange - ZZ Top
Boom, boom, boom - ZZ Top
    Proud Mary - Creedence

umm...dido - thank you, fiona apple - on the bound...

    just joking.

Yeah, figure out how many CDs roughly, and then we'll put them together in a way that has a decent flow to it.

there's gotta be some David Allen Coe in there. A little Johnny Cash. A little Hank Williams, Jr.

    thx lex

    add to list:
    American Pie - D McClean
    Desperado

will need to listen to some of the others to make a call

kinda want to stay away from mushy love songs and songs singing the praises of women (like firefall's "you are the woman"). remember, there won't be any on this outing unless we go to a titty bar (which is doubtful). the group will already be tanked. if they start feeling the luv too and there's no women, well i just don't want to be watching my backside all night. a couple of guys woke up with their underwear down around their knees some years back ... no explanations ...

my kids hate all the old $hit, so i make it a point to hate all the new $hit
