My wife and I are considering putting in hardwood floors in a few of our rooms. Does anyone know of a reputable, fair-priced flooring company in Charlotte area? Is Home Depot/Lowe's pretty comparable, or should I steer clear from them? Anything else I should know ahead of time? I think we're only looking to install floors in about 600 sf - mainly foyer, dining room, living room. I'm tired of our carpets!

    TIA

I've used lumber liquidators quite a bit. You installing yourself? If not I would stay away from Loews or HD. They will just use some sub con and chances are they will be idiots. Hire a company that does not sub out the work and it will get done right. Better yet, do it yourself It's cheap and easy.

My wife and I are putting laminate in the downstairs of our house. We went Saturday to a couple places. One is in Matthews, Creative Floor Coverings. I think we will end up going with them. The salesman was knowledgeable and not pushy, which we liked. They also had a pretty good selection. Their website is awesome. http://www.createmyfloor.com/

If you're looking for true hardwood, be prepared for some maintenance. If you just want the look without the hassle, I'd suggest laminate. It's a ton cheaper, and all you have to do is run a damp mop over it every once in a while.

I've put both type of hardwood floor down. The fake floors were by far the quickest and less work, no nailing required. I prefer real of fake myself, I think it looks better.
