I know he probably makes the team, but he really has no business doing so - we have better/younger/cheaper options at everything Hankton does.

I agree if you remove "almost".

    I think I think,

    Davis starts season on PUP,

Foster, Goings, Robertson, Shelton, Hoover, Cramer is very good depth.

    Robertson can handle kick-offs

I have a feeling Boone or Roos would be a suitable replacement for Hankton.

It is starting to look like we have five WR who can play on offense. Smith, Colbert, Gardner, Proehl, Carter. I think we are going to be hard pressed not to keep all those guys. How many wideouts do we carry? Hankton may be pushed out due to having quality and depth at wideout, for the first time.

PROBABLY 6, but 5 will be all that's active fr gameday... if that many. I have a feeling that early on Carter will be the inactive guy.

Smart's special teams presence was seen last night.

The fact that he broke a run, which he never does, really helps him, too. Smart's not a good back, and he's not been an explosive return man since mid-2003, but while Robertson looks better as a back (and didn't seem to get enough time, overall), and looked good as a return man, I think they're going to want Smart's explosion on ST.

Hankton pulling in a somewhat deep pass was a good sign for him, too. Carter, of course, really looked decent. He wasn't as explosive as I wanted, as in burning scrubs like Colbert had the year before, but he's good.

I wouldn't want to make these decisions, but we would've been a better football team had we had this depth last year.

The guy we used to call Stone Hands found some new hands last season and has kept them in shape during the off season. It'll be a tough call when cut time comes because I know Hankton means a lot to his teammates as well as the coaching staff. He's been a team captain forever and that reflects the respect of his teammates. First preseason is way too early to make definitive calls on cuts, but it;s not going to be easy when the time comes.
