You said earlier that it saved $3 million this season, so I guess you posted the wrong information.

Spotrac is showing what you said initially about the 15-17 years being voidable but not 2014. If true that makes it a better deal since you're getting two years of reasonable cost in exchange for $3.6 mil of dead cap in 2015.

From what I just read, you folks seem to have the void wrong. Gross can void the remainder of this new deal if he's on the roster on Feb 7th next year. That's 5 days after the superbowl, not day 5 of the new league year. There's probably some bonus payment the team could use to buy back a year or more.

It wasn't wrong, you mis-understood it. We saved $3 million (actually $3.2 million) in CASH this season and $7 million (actually $6.8) in cap savings in 2013.

2014 definitely voids. But that doesn't make it a bad deal.

King, it specifically states 'automatically voids if on roster on 5th day of 14 LY waiver period'. Maybe that means the 5th day after the Super Bowl. But there is no bonus payment to buy back the void. The only thing in there is a 2014 Roster Bonus to be paid on 7/15. But he's not going to see that because he won't be on the roster on 7/15 under this deal.

Totally agree, I wonder if he'll get a statue one day. Seriously I'd consider it if I was JR.

Unless the Panthers are a contender this season, then yes it does. The last thing they should be doing is pushing even more money against the cap into future seasons, which is exactly what this deal does.

    Link your source please.

If it automatically voids with no way to keep it, then it's just a 1 year deal with extra years tossed in for no reason other than cap circumvention. I don't see that getting league approval.

That was my thought as well. If you can get away that kind of trickery then why isn't everyone doing it?
