elite tackles are hyped for another reason, and no better example of it is by none other than Jordan Gross himself: pick one in the top 10, and there's a decent chance (relative to other positions) he starts and plays well for the next 160+ games.

    Wow, that would be shocking.

Dont we already have 2.4 mill coming in June from Anderson for the draft picks.

Maybe we make another move or two in FA, but probably more 1 year deals.

    Ginger still about?

The theoretical cut to his 2014 pay doesn't matter because the voidable years means there's no way he plays here in 2014 unless they do yet another contract. So you got $3 million in cap space this season in exchange for $3.6 million more against the cap in 2014. So this actually ended up costing the team more cap space as a whole than it saved.

I get what you're saying, but just want to clarify that Gross was never actually elite. He was above average in his prime and is probably about average now.

He was elite when we picked him as a prospect in 2003, just as Joeckel and Fisher are now. Plus, a lot of guys that were more highly regarded than Gross have washed out since then.

He turned out 100 times better than Byron Leftwich.

Thats what I remember about that draft.

Gross was never even discussed as a potential #1 pick as far as I can remember.

    Very true.

Gross has really been about the least of our problems since day one, been solid as hell on and off the field.

I predict the union or the NFL will want to investigate this deal, just not sure which one.

I wasnt talking about a theoretical cut to his 2014. I only mentioned the total cap hit that was on the books prior to the restructure. He did, however, take a real cut in pay for 2013 from $8.7 mil to $5.5 mil.

Assuming just one more year, here are the cap hits:

Old deal, cut after 2013 season:

    2013 Cap - 11.7 million
    2014 Cap - 2.0 million
    Total Cap - 13.7 million

New Deal, voided after 2013 season

    2013 Cap - $4.9 million
    2014 Cap - $5.6 million
    Total Cap - $10.5 million

How is it costing us more as a whole?
