KFFL is reporting Gross restructured his deal and it took his base salary from 8.7 mil this year to 1 mil and his 2014 base salary from 6.7 mil to 1 mil.

That is my assumption too. He could have called their bluff, had them cut him, and he would have made more than that over the next two years somewhere else. I am sure this is more like a 'restructure' than a 'pay cut'. There are probably some years added to the deal too.

    Yep. here are the details:

    Signing bonus - $4.5 mil
    2013 Salary - $1 mil
    2014 Salary - $1 mil
    2015 Salary - $1.9 mil (will void)
    2016 Salary - $1.9 mil (will void)
    2017 Salary - $1.9 mil (will void)

the void language says that 15, 16, and 17 will void if on the roster the 5th day of the 2014 League year. So it is a little of both. he takes less money but restructures to give us even more wiggle room the next two years under the cap.

    edit for Cap numbers

    2013 - Goes from $11.7 mil to $4.9 mil
    2014 - Goes from $10.7 mil to $5.9 mil
2015 - There would be $2.7 mil in pro-rated bonuses that would be due if his contract is not re-done.

    Interesting. Hmm. Very cool.

This could help with 76 too, although I'd imagine the team would want to see another good year before we get serious with talks.

I'm pretty shocked that he would take less money.

Me too. He is definitely the exception and not the norm.

FYI, i got the void wrong. 2014 will void as well so the cap hit in 2014 (assuming we let him walk) looks like it will be $7.6 mil. So in essence, this is a one year $5.5 million deal. He was set to make $8.7 mil in 2013 so he took quite a bit less.
