I'm sorry, Larry, but with all due respect, I've got to say something about this argument.

To say that Super Bowl rings is a valid argument for a single player's talent is to say that Trent Dilfer is a better QB than Dan Marino.

It's to say that Antowain Smith is a better RB than Barry Sanders.

It's to say that Tom Brady is a better QB than Dan Fouts.

It's to say that Michael Pittman is a better RB than Edgerrin James AND Ricky Williams.

Championships are team achievements, pure and simple. They cannot be used to define individual talent, and I defy anyone to prove otherwise.

OBVIOUSLY, that's not the only criterium.

however, it adds serious substance to the resume.

i don't think marino was the best qb ever and i dont think that sanders was the best rb ever -- yes, their lack of playoff runs plays into that. if marino had four titles and mvps to go with his bevy of yards and tds, i'd think differently about him -- as would we all.

    >>>>barry wasn't the best pure runner ever. he was a scrambling back who had enough speed and moves to elude tacklers.

    >>>give me emmitt smith ANY day of the week. at least emmit could take a hit and keep moving forward.

If you looked at the OL that these two guys had....you would know that Emmitt's line is considered one of the best group in the history of the league...most of the time...Emmitt was three to four yards across the line of scrimmage before anyone even touched him.

Barry had to fight just to keep from losing yards alot of the time...so my vote goes to Barry...if he hadn't retired...Emmitt would still be chasing him for the all-time rushing leader

Yes Emmitt was durable...but I don't remember Barry being out for long periods of time.

Look at Elway...he didn't get a ring until Davis came along. It is a team effort. No one person in football can carry a team. Marino never had a running game and Sanders never had an OL or much of a team for that matter.

Walter Payton..who in my opinion is the best RB of all time...only won his championship when the bears had that hellasious defense of theirs.
