If it is produced by General Mills, I might be able to get ahold of an unfolded box. I have a couple of buddies who occaisionally get stuff like that for me.
The only ones I posess are the Joe Paterno & Walter Payton Wheaties Boxes.
My neighbor has a kick ass all black and silver Raiders one amongst his collection of 30-40 NFL and Nascar boxes.
Some of those bad boys are worth some coin. Unfolded and framed they can draw some cash.

Carolina dreaming: Jake's Flakes cereal could hit shelves soon if Panthers and QB Delhomme win Super Bowl

    Friday, January 23, 2004

By Teresa F. Lindeman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

You don't need to read the sports pages to know how the Steelers did this past season. Just go to your nearest Giant Eagle. There you'll find discount signs pasted on stacks of Tommy Gun Flakes cereal and Steelers bobbleheads.

As the National Football League season winds down, the easiest way to separate the still-hopefuls from the has-beens is to check what items retailers are still loading up on.

Dick's Sporting Goods, for example, has been bringing in fresh NFL merchandise all week -- but only for the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers, the two teams that will meet in the Super Bowl a week from Sunday.

"We're well stocked in Patriots and Panthers merchandise" and more should continue to roll into those teams' home markets as T-shirt makers and printers complete new orders, said Jeffrey Hennion, Dick's vice president of finance.

Except for the Steelers' early exit -- the team didn't come close to the playoffs, finishing 6-10 with a Dec. 28 loss to Baltimore -- Dick's officials have been pretty happy with the NFL playoff results this year. The sporting goods retailer has more than 160 stores in 27 states -- all in the Eastern half of the United States, home to the final four playoff teams: Carolina, Philadelphia, New England (technically, Foxboro, Mass.), and Indianapolis. "I think it's fair to say we're always rooting for teams in markets where we have stores," said Hennion.

At Robinson-based PLB Sports, which has marketed such products as Lynn Swann's Super 88's cereal in 2001 and Jerome Bettis "The Bus" peanut butter in 1999, the statistics tell the story.

A few years ago, the company launched Warner's Crunch Time Cereal just as St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner was heading toward the Super Bowl. Warner made a game-winning pass and PLB Sports sold 350,000 boxes of frosted corn flakes.

By comparison, Steelers passer Tommy Maddox didn't have his greatest season this year.

A respectable, but not spectacular, 30,000 to 40,000 boxes of Tommy Gun Flakes -- also frosted corn flakes -- ended up on breakfast tables during the season.

"It did OK. It did fine," said Ty Ballou, PLB's president. "It hit the numbers." He never plans for a player to make it into the playoffs since that's not a sure thing. If he makes it, that's just sugar on top.

Besides, winning isn't always everything. Doug Flutie -- the 5-foot-10 San Diego Chargers quarterback who has made a career out of upsetting expectations -- hasn't had much playoff time and never made it to a Super Bowl.

But Ballou estimated more than 3 million boxes of Flutie Flakes (frosted flakes again) have been sold since their introduction in 1998, perhaps in part because the high-profile quarterback donates proceeds to autistic children (his son, Doug Jr., has autism).

Generally, a portion of the PLB product sales are contributed to the player's chosen charity.

Ballou has his fingers crossed that the Panthers win the Super Bowl Feb. 1. If they do, production will start almost immediately on Jake's Flakes. He'd be especially psyched if Delhomme turns in a Most Valuable Player performance.

The ideal climate for a Jake's Flakes launch would likely be under the twin halos of Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP trophies.

If the Panthers win, Delhomme will have his face on 50,000 boxes of, yes, frosted corn flakes by early February, even before General Mills is expected to print its traditional Wheaties box with the Super Bowl champs' pictures.

If Carolina falls to the favored Patriots, the cereal schedule changes.

"I'll be honest with you," said Ballou. "If they lose, we'll probably delay the rollout," perhaps until closer to training camp.

Meanwhile, at Giant Eagle, the sports marketing staff is moving on already.

This week, they met with the Pirates to talk baseball promotions.
