I used to think not, and used whatever ball I had (or found). usually a top flite xl2000, or pinnacle, or what the hell ever. Then I was given some Callaway balls for my B-Day, and I swear these balls went about 10-15 yards farther with each club. I may have to rethink my "a golf ball is a golf ball attitude". (Not that I can afford the high dollar balls)

TopFlights are called RockFlights, they are fucking hard. I won't play with them. They will go father, but there's more to golf than an extra 10 yards.

If you lightly bounce the different balls off the club head, you can hear the difference

I like Titlest 90 compression, red box. Not too much spin, so off the tee I'm still okay, but enough spin that I can stop it on the green (sometimes). Nice soft feel for putting, and that's the real reason I like them. On faster greens, I like the softer balls. It allows me to give a little firmer stroke without blowing past the hole. A ball with a lot of spin are more for lower handi-cappers. They don't have to worry about slicing like we do and it allows them maximum back spin on the greens. I got a couple of other kinds as gifts, like the white box, HP Distance is pretty good and the yellow box NXT Tour is pretty nice, but I my preference is the red box. I don't remember what they're called, because I'm so used to asking for them by color so the family can get it right.

Top Flights have very little spin, and they love to just bounce right over the green and keep on going. If you go to the driving range, most of them have those, and you'll notice how nice and straight you seem to hit them, and then get out on the course with a decent golf ball and you're all over the place. Driving range balls have to be hard though so they last longer.

Prostaff is a pretty good ball for the money, if you like to lose them especially. At Walmart they're usually $16/18-pack...but I haven't looked in a while, but I liked them. Big difference from $30-$40/dozen

I don't like playing with older golf balls either, they tend to lose their shape and no longer putt straight.

Never played with Callaways, Pinnacles are okay, Nike are really nothing special either, JMHO...
