Just wondering if the lot of you have an opinion as to whether Nick Goings has lost his value as a Panther...

He has screwed up on special teams, allowing blocked punts and some missed assignments this year. We've seen him very little offensively, and he had a major faux pas last week against Green Bay when they actually called his number.

This was the guy who was our featured running back in the NFL championship game a few years ago against Seattle (due to injuries). With that said, is he making any contributions to the team that warrants us keeping a roster spot for him next year?

I've always been a Goings advocate, and I used to think he had the PASSION. But, his screw ups this year seem to overshadow any positives he brings to the team. I would like to see him prove me wrong before the end of the season.

Fox loves his versatility and leadership, neither of which are particularly easy to replace. Does he deserve to stay? No. Will he stay? You betcha.

Goings is a guy they know can do anything, and do it adequately, which is the type player that good teams try to have in their bottom 5 players that aren't on the two-deep but are going to be active. Honestly, at some point he's going to take that last head injury and retire, and then he'll probably end up on staff.

Ideally, I'd love to have eventually gotten a fullback that could compete. i'd have loved to have kept Casey Cramer, who I saw score for Miami recently. He was versatile, and a decent ST player too.

Hoover seems to be playing fine this year and I have no concerns about his play right now...traditionally he's gotten a little too much hype but when I do see him lately, he's taking someone out. Now it's just a matter of age, and pulling fullbacks out of the draft is at best chancy, but if Hoover did go down, there's no way Goings would be a good starting fullback. So that's going to be a delicate balance long term.

    Very much agreed.

I also agree with Majordobie -- I've always been a fan of Goings, too, but he's making too many mistakes doing the things the team needs most from him. It's time for him to be beaten in camp by someone else.
