Going back to windows 98

My daughter has one of them big fancy gateway computers that is built to the max. With it she got the windows xp home edition. What I want to know is, can she delete the xp and use my windows98 disks that came with my compaq? Or do I have to go out and buy the 98 disks?

Depends on if the drivers that work on your machine work on hers. I have a generic OEM version of Win98 that has worked with every machine I've tried to install it on. One glitch, though. I have to download the video drivers, the sound card drivers, the modem drivers, etc etc etc from another source as Win98 is much older than most of the peripheral devices I have in the machine.

it's probably the interface that's causing her problems. You can switch that back to the old fashion way

If you insist on going back to 98. I will trade you my 98 software for you XP software...I dont use 98 anymore and it's not installed.

Operating systems are usually made to be upgraded, not downgraded. Heaven knows what kind of junk microsoft has put in the registry and what system files do what. By just deleting, you'll probably fuck things up bigtime because you won't get everything. If you really want to go back, backup all her shit on cd's and go to the DOS prompt and type format c.

Then you can install 98 safely.

Um you CAN'T install Windows 98 over Windows XP the ONLY way is to format...
