Meatpile, I was driving down Selwyn Tuesday and I think the Mexicans in your yard are now tearing your street up.

did you get an irrigation tap and meter intstalled or will you be paying sewer charges for your lawn watering? we do that up here in mooresville. it costs extra up front but is worth it in the long run.

    >>It's not hard. I drove a line under it when i put in the lighting. You dig hole on both sides of the walk, cap an iron pipe that's wider than the walk, and sledgehammer that bitch through.

another way is to do like you said, but hook water up to the pvc and it's much easier to push through

i'm not on city water. but i've installed "garden" (irrigation) taps/meters for city customers when i was with the maintenance crew. you only pay for the water you use vs. the attatched sewer charge you normally pay with a domestic setup. the sewer rates are usually higher than the water rates in many municipalities so you save a good bit depending on how much you water your lawn. and most people are surprised at the amount of water they use for irrigation. i'm thinking it cost about 2k for a tap and meter (up here) and you just hook your line up to the fitting on the back side of the meter manifold. cmud may not offer this, i dont know. and their tap fees may be higher too. this damn dry ass weather may put the kibosh on things til it gets better. i am currently buying water from an independent hauler in order to top off my pool instead of taxing my well source. you never know.
