According to the CLT BIZ JOURNAL, GerryV is trying to get back over to WFNZ, where he first got his start in the Sportstalk biz over 10 years ago (remember, he & Michelle Tafoya had the PM drivetime slot Packman has now) . . . Here's the blurb that was in last week's edition of the paper . . .

Rumors have swirled that sports-talker Gerry Vaillancourt, recently let go by WBT, wants a new gig at all-sports WFNZ -- the station that gave him his start in radio almost a decade ago. The slot he's eyeing: 10 to noon, now filled by syndicated host Tony Kornheiser. Gerry V couldn't be reached. D.J. Stout, WFNZ operations manager, says V is unlikely to surface: "He hasn't talked to us and we haven't talked to him. We have no interest." Stout says his local morning crew of Gary Williams, T.C. and Jim Celania has signed contract extensions in recent weeks, while afternoon host Mark Packer is in talks now.

Now, I'll bet you Packman wouldn't be thrilled working at the same station with the guy who's '*** he just kicked (ratings-wise)' (and he has said this on the air, indirectly of course . . . DOn't tell me you guys let this fly right over your heads and don't think it means anything now, do you   ? ? ?). I doubt they would work on the same show though; they would be on seperate shows I would think. Perhaps GerryV could cohost the MSP with Gary Williams, and eventually become its host I-F Gary ever left the show O-R host a new 10-Noon or 10-2 show (I like Jim Rome, but I could handle having Vman on WFNZ and pushing Van Smack back to late night tape delay . . . .)

Now, Vman & Pack at the same station sounds crazy, but look at it this way. Is it likely the Vman's old audience are swinging their dial to PRIMETIME now en masse? Only the future ratings books will tell. But I'm sure Stout realizes that though Vman was the competitor, he did have a large audience (remember guys, Vman's T-O-T-A-L audience was always bigger than PRIMETIME's, if I remember the ratings posts over at the old board correctly). I-F he brought VMan on board, I'm sure many of his listeners would come to WFNZ. Thus, the ratings would increase, which in turn would generate more revenue for the station, right? But what the hell am I thinking . . . I've never worked in radio before, so I guess I should just keep my mouth shut then ;)

Why not just have MSP stay where it's at, Gerry V from 10-2 and Pack keep his time slot. FNZ has been trying different things in the 10-2 slot for years (Czaban, Fabulous Sports Blob, Rome...) This would work
