it's hard to call anything of that nature fair, but I'm still getting used to the exorbitant prices of NFL corners. I remember when Lucas was signed, that was a shitload of money, $6 mil a year.

This is a third more than that, in three years. For comparable contracts amongst the NFL. That's a lot of growth. Coincidentally, I think Peppers' contract could nearly double his $49 million in 2002, which was a huge amount then and up to now the largest contract the team has given out.

Interceptions are not the barometer for good corner play. In fact, some of the best corners don't get many because they're not thrown at often enough, and because they defend the pass rather than gambling for picks. Meanwhile scrubs like Deltha O'Neil and Tory James have made the Pro Bowl because of their inflated INT total.

don't look now but Gamble leads the franchise in career passes defended, is 2nd in INT, third in tackles.

Despite my reservations about re-signing Peppers to a "highest paid DE in history" deal I think we will have to. We have no one else who can rush the passer effectively and he is better than anyone else that will be available.

Gross can be replaced though. Wharton can play LT.

He wasn't worth the money today, but Marshall is the one who should give back his weekly paycheck.

Time to go ahead a look for a Marshall replacement, hopefully someone who can also return kicks. Mark Jones is pretty solid but has absolutely no elusiveness.
