Gamble signed six year extension per Charlotte Observer.

Guess this means that Lucas is probably gone after this year....

    Interesting.

This past year he became our best corner, not because Lucas has fallen, but because Gamble's become a very good player. He's gone from being soft, to being a physical guy in patterns who didn't hit or tackle well, to being an all around good football player.

Nah, not necessarily. Lucas is still integral. My guess is that they'll now weigh the options of having Lucas at a 3-4 year extension or Marshall at a deal comparable to Gamble's (since that's what the market will bear, rather than "Marshall is as good as Gamble"). They won't keep all three, but they should be able to find a nickelback with good ability and our 4 and 5 corners are both very solid (for 4th/5th corners),and this isn't until 2010 (now all our CBs are under contract until then, depending on Marshall clearing RFA).

gotta wait for him to be tendered. But since he's a 2nd rounder already, there's no reason to put the 2nd round tender on him. So it's the base tender or the 1st round tender. The first round tender will probably be around $2.3 million.

My feeling, between initial comments as a draftee and subsequent whispers from negotiations, is that Marshall will shop himself heavily. But no way a team gives us a 1st rounder for him. I'd probably be more likely to expect that a team comes to an agreement on Marshall's price and then tries to get him away for the 2nd in a trade.

Either way, I'm sure that the RFA compensation and how they plan on playing that, is part of what came into play here. I can't say they made the decision that Marshall would ask for more so they chose Gamble, as much as they know what each would cost and determined that Gamble was a better choice.

It's interesting that words were stated that Gross was a bigger concern, and a week after he has a crappy day and Gamble locks White down when they made that change, Gamble's the one with security.

Well, you can speculate all day on it one way or another, but end result is that this was a good move, I was lobbying for this to happen, and we'll continue to have a strong secondary for at least another year past this.

Also, my guess for the contract is 6 years, $43 mil and around $8.5mil bonus.

Denver TV station quoting 6 years, $54.55 mil, with $16 mil in guarantees. Top five for DBs in the league, so it's equitable for a franchise level player.

That's a lot of money. That Clements contract certainly did up the price. Given that this is the first major non-rookie contract the team has signed in a few years, the sticker shock is going to get us for a while. The biggest non-rook deals we inked this year were 3 year extensions to starters like Damione Lewis and Chris Harris.

Plus, Gamble's rookie deal if I remember right was a very, very cost effective 5 years, $6 mil or something equally ridiculous given the amount of picks we got out of him so far.

I have no idea why I put down such a low bonus number. I know better.

I guess I am happy that we are keeping Gamble. Given his age and quality it makes a lot of sense. I am not sure about Marshall and Lucas but if I had to pick one to keep long term it would probably be Marshall since Lucas is a good bit older than him.

It will be interesting to see what we do with Peppers and Gross. If we bring them both back then we are using up a lot of cap and depending on them to be big parts of our team for a long time. I am not sure about that with either of them to be honest. Peppers has had a pretty good year but I can not remember him dominating a game this year like he used to a few years ago.

Good that they got him done, but we are paying a high price if that's accurate.

    Asante didn't help us either.

EDIT: Thelt, just say you don't want to resign peppers, all this 'i don't know' followed by complaints about his play tells what you think.

He has had a great season so far. Let's hope he don't relax now that he's been rewarded.
