I would not have a problem with a WR. Colbert and the rookie can battle it out for the second starting spot and maybe bump Proehl down a bit. I am not keen on Williamson though I would rather have Clayton. There are several other players I would rather have than a WR though. Baas is one.

I'd actually rather have Williamson for a few reasons. (1) He's bigger (2) He's faster (3) he has more potential

With those three abilities I'd like him to be able to learn for a year with Proehl. Clayton is far more polished and would be better NOW, but I think Williamson could be great with the right teaching and since we have the luxury of Proehl for one more year we could use it to teach him. He's like Peppers, he'll take a little time, but can be a phenom after a little coaching.

this team can win now -- give me clayton.

clayton is derrick mason or marvin harrison -- he can return kicks and punts. best hands in the class.

Honestly I don't see a big separation between the two. I'm more than happy to see one of them at 14, and right now I hope we take one of the two. We won't find that impact with any other position right now, including RB where I think a later pick can have impact in this system.

I don't see RAC as a strength for Williamson. RAC isn't just about speed and quickness, it's actually more about route running and catching in a good body position, neither of which Williamson is worth a damn at. Clayton, on the other hand, could be a RAC monster. Williamson is a modern-day James Jett.

    The Brain:
Williamson is three inches taller and ten pounds heavier than Clayton, but Clayton looks much tougher and more physical on film than Williamson. So I wouldn't put much stock in the size difference because Williamson plays small.

As for speed, Clayton was only three hundredths slower in the 20 and the 40 than Williamson, while Clayton was seven hundredths faster in the first 10 yards. Clayton was also four hundredths faster in the three-cone drill, which measures lateral quickness.

And finally in regards to potential, I'm open to arguments but I don't see where Williamson has a higher ceiling than Clayton. Is Williamson going to get bigger? Will he get faster? Williamson presumably will get better than he is right now, but the things he hopefully will get better in are the things Clayton already has - receiving skills.

I guess this is what puzzles me about the draft talk not only here but across the country. If Williamson doesn't play bigger and isn't significantly faster, why would anyone consider him ahead of Clayton? In my opinion the two aren't even close.

    LarryD:
I'd be absolutely thrilled to get Derrick Johnson. And as for the larger question of impact, a rookie WR isn't going to have much of an impact at all at the outset, especially if it's Williamson. OT, OG, RB, LB, and S would be the places for us to get an immediate contribution out of our first selection.

It is hard for me to overlook Clayton's production compared to Williamson's. Clayton seems to have a lot less bust potential too. If he can return punts then he helps us even more. I wish we could move down and get Clayton and Baas.

If he's there, then great. I'm having trouble, otherwise, making it work - do you move WW? Do you have him part-time with Fields and release Short? I'm not positive he can play strongside in this system, and I know I don't want him off the field. But he's one of the best players in the draft.
