We are better off losing him to Michigan than losing him to Stanford.

Richard Williamson was on every team but this last one (lucky). Richardson fired most coaches from the 98 team (Seeley and McNally didn't deserve it), no idea whether guys like Chick Harris would've been kept by Seifert or just forced on him. My guess is that he forced Haskell out after Haskell as forced on him but I've never thought about it before.

From 01, Williamson was retained and that's all.

Yeah, like one of JR's boys - namely, Mark Richardson.

It's common knowledge that Mark took over a lot of the old man's duties while JR worked on his heart issues. Junior wanted to dump Peppers and take the franchise into a different marketing universe, possibly even eventually moving the Panthers to LA. That was the rumor anyway. Bottom line, Mark Richardson started throwing his weight around and that's about the time Fox read the tea leaves and advised his assistants to jump ship while they could.

Once JR returned and Mark realized that there can be only one rooster in the hen house, it was too late for John Fox. The meltdown against the Cardinals happened, 2009 saw almost zero free agents signed and the following summer was the season of the great purge.

I think Haskell left of his own accord to join Homgren when he moved to Seattle. If I remember, we had a very dynamic offense when he was the OC. I think that was the year that Jeffers and Muhammed lit everything up. Didn't we have to outscore the Saints by a certain number of points to get into the playoffs if Green Bay lost of something like that?

the idea that Fox urged assistants to leave was interesting. You know, at the time, the guys leaving that left, I didn't take that to mean anything, argued against people that said it did. Oh well.

So why does it take 2 years for that to get out?

Yeah that was too. Falling on his sword for his buds or sticking it to the organization? A little of each.

People were wondering about the timing of the statement from JR. Fox was out there commenting on it, I guess that's a good enough reason to put it out there officially.
