He sure has a lot of value after his production last year.:freak:

I think Hartwig was a RT until the Titans moved him to C. This move may have been to avoid having to overpay Gross next year.

With the experience our young guys got last year we should be very deep on the OL.

As noted, Fox doesn't typically make it a habit to throw rooks into the fire. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kalil sit all year. It would suck, but would anyone else be shocked? Seems like Mathis/Handy/Montgomery would have to really fuck up somethin' fierce to lose ground to a rookie. (In the eyes of John Fox)

I have to agree with that. I thought Montgomery was really good for a rookie last year...he's seems to be pretty sound technique wise and just needs to learn the finer points of his position.

Kalil does two things. One gives another good starter on the O-Line, and two is a much cheaper alternative next year, when we're having to free up money for Peppers, Gross, Wharton, and possibly Smith.

As a matter of fact a LOT of this draft seems to be gearing more for the future rather than next year. Gives the Panthers the possible ability to cut loose hartwig, Morgan, and Keyshawn. That frees up a shitload of money.

regardless this to me looks like moves to set the team at a cheaper overall cost for the future without sacrificing the team as a whole.
