Okay, let me get more specific then, & see what y'all think. I'm not concerned about losing programs. I have a backup hard drive with system restore on it, plus 2 system restore disks, plus separate disks for re-installing various programs. What I'd like to back up is my settings for various programs, my documents, my pictures, & my music. FWIW, I'm very careful with most of my stuff, & especially with my computer stuff. I store things carefully, don't leave shit lying around where it might get damaged. Accidents can always happen, though.

I've been periodically saving those things to cds, but I thought it might be safer & more convenient to back up to a flash drive that can hold more stuff in one place. I'm using less than 25% of the storage space available on my C drive, but I expect that to grow gradually. And I'm trying not to spend too much money.

That all sounds OK. You might consider backing up the flash drive to something. I back mine up to an external drive.
