20-40 pick getting 8-10 money ( especially the lower end of that ) is more likely from an agent/player than a '~#15' getting #8 money. That said, the lions also have pick #33, smack in the middle of that range. So - kinda goofy.

A projected 15 could go higher than 8 anyway. Rather easily. PLUS, if the agent believes that the team actually covets his player, and is smokescreening with other 'projected ~#15-20', he could try to hold out for more.

I still think it's a cool idea, I just don't see it happening. I liked how Miami worked a better deal for Long than the Raiders did with Russell, but is that more a function of Oakland's stupidity than Miami's brilliance?

I guess since we have no first rounder, it would just be alot more entertaining to watch all hell break loose than have an orderly selection.

it seems people have problems with the rookie pay scale moreso than anything else.

    Yep. It undermines parity.

Not so much when a draft class is strong.....but this class is not really strong. It shouldn't be punitive to have the first pick in the draft, ever.

It's been mostly punitive for awhile now.

2004, 2006, 2008 all worked out pretty well.....and historically even in bust pick years, the first pick was desired by more than one team.
This year is unique because nobody really wants it. There's no leverage associated with the #1 pick.

I just hope other folks can appreciate the irony too:

If someone advocated doing an end run around the unions to suppress wages at Walmart over in Politics, you'd go batshit crazy on them for destroying America.

And I'm going to keep posting this until you get it through your thick skull...

HE WOULD STILL BE THE #1 OVERALL DRAFT CHOICE. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHEN HE SIGNS HIS CONTRACT.

But his pay isn't based on where he gets picked by rule. So as long as he agrees to a contract before, his pick position is irrelevant.
