you're right, it doesn't require you do things exactly by the rules.

But, in the end, the goal is success, not seeing if you can play with things. And whether you feel like you can be more successful being the one team that can control the outcome, or whether you feel like you have a better chance in chaos. And, to me, the things being suggested tend more toward chaos.

To put it more in tune with what I'm feeling, if I were a Lions fan I'd expect them to pick a player that's rated more toward 1 than 20, and I'd expect them to do things expecting a better talent than a cheaper contract. If I were a Lions fan I wouldn't want my team to do something really crazy and foolish just because it sounds kinda interesting.

this is the right idea (there's not really a DT you could trade for with that value). No idea who, of course, but it's the right idea. And, you wouldn't have to negotiate a #1 overall deal.

I am not sure what I would do either if I were the Lions but I understand their problem. In order to trade down someone has to want to trade up....

It sucks for the Lions that the year they have the #1 pick there is no true franchise player. But with the rebuilding that franchise needs to do it cant be fucking around with the time clock on draft day. Even if they got their man they'd still look like tools who cant make the right decision. Bite the bullit and be confident in your choice and try to breath some life into that disaster of a franchise.

They seem to have a top five pick every year and end up drafting a WR who is a bust. I would not take Stafford. He will have no talent around him and probably get scarred for life trying to play for them. I would probably just take the best offensive lineman on the board and try to build that way. The have Cherilus on one side so lock down both tackles and you have a good start.

They have a lot of high picks this year. Maybe they can get Laurinitis to help their defense. If I drafted a QB I would plan on Culpepper starting this year and the rookie learning from the bench. The Lions are a far cry from the Falcons of a year ago and Matt Ryan is not in this draft.

I think the Lions should grab Curry but then, do you want to pay a LB first pick money?

That's kinda the problem. Who DO you want to pay first pick money? Answer = nobody.

Definitely. And like you said, it's not like they've been stellar on the clock anyway, so hey, let's complicate things!

It's not complicated at all. It's beauty is its simplicity. You're too conservative, Magnus.
