After talking to the Brain about Morpheous he said that Kazaa had spyware attached to it. But he had firewall at work so it wasn't an issue. While I don't have any national security issues on my home PC I would like to keep my fetishes my own. What are some good Firewall programs. Take in effectiveness and cost. Wife is looking for one for her work so I might help her along and then make a copy for home use.;)

I like Zone Alarm but what ever you get make sure you go to the web site and get all the updates to the program

Question

I found Zone Alarm at CNET, question though. How will this effect my wifes PCAnywhere connection to her work? Will this still be feasable?

This will be good info for me. I've only worked with firewall devices, not software.

I downloaded Zone Alarm and installed it the other day. After 1 day, it started messing up my IRC Chat clients. They wouldn't work, then soon other things stopped working.

I deleted it - including all the files, etc.

When I rebooted, I got an error message which said, "The computer has recovered from a serious error - please send log to Microsoft."

Even after sending it, that message box keeps coming back up everytime I boot up.

Later, In another discussion board - I found other people having the same problems. There was something about "files being corrupted" mentioned there.

Anyone found anything about this??

do you know how to search the registry (regedit) and look for value or key work "zone" and or "alarm". there may still be some start up entries in the registry.

Note: Be very careful what you delete, when in doubt don't delete.

I could be wrong on this, but I believe if you want to route your connection through a Linksys Box ($149) that in itself provides some pretty good protection. (Somebody clarify that for me)

I have Norton 2002 on top of that and seem to be protected. The thing I really like about Norton 2002 is the Kids PC has Parental Control turned on and that works great - you can't pull up any porn or download software etc...
