Firewall

I been told I need a firewall? I never heard of this before I got RR. DSL was different?

I thought I knew this stuff at one time. Shit for brains and too many chemicals at work....rotting my mind.

The residential gateway by Dlink is the easiest and least expensive IMO.

Speaking of Firewalls

I am setting up a seperate PC in house and will network the two together via a wireless router/firewall. How hard is it to allow PC Anywhere to go through the firewall to access another off site PC?

If you use Norton Personal Firewall, it's pretty much seamless. They're made by the same company, Symantec. I'm sure others can be configured, but this configuration is exactly what i use.

Problem time, again.....I downloaded Zone Alarm, but apparently it's not configured to work with applets and chats of that nature. Gay.com is not letting me connect and my roommate is about to explode. I have to turn it off whenever he wants to go online there.

The best thing to do would be to somehow upload Zone Alarm to gay.com itself. Then nobody could get on. That way, your roomate might not get so mad knowing nobody's getting on.

It is the least expensive, but it has drawbacks compared to the comparable Netgear and LinkSys. I kept mine anyway. I try to keep the firmware updated.

If you're not a techie for a living, a DLink is fine.

Yea, I haven't had too much experience with them, just researched some when I put the company on the internet. The only draw back is you need a PC to confirgure it, I only have a mac at home now, but once it's configure, you don't have to touch it.
