Anderson will make the squad, but he won't be active unless someone gets injured.

 

I don't know for certain that he's really better than Hankton, but I don't crap on him - he was ST captain for a reason. I know Adams has started, of course. He's better at coverage and ST than Anderson. IMO, Anderson plays the run better and has been good enough at coverage to not need Adams. Adams has obvious value, too. Most teams don't keep 3 WLB, partially so you don't have to have a 3rd rounder in street clothes when he's earned PT.

In years past, we wouldn't keep a dedicated return player at both RB and WR. If you're expecting Robertson and Hill to return, that's the sacrifice.

 

When has he played the run better? He had one tackle on a draw against Buffalo, another tackle on a Travis Minor run that went for 8 yards, then had two last night on Cedric Humes in short yardage. I honestly don't see where he's above average against the run. Meanwhile Adams had 5 tackles against the run in less playing time. Plus Adams showed himself to be a solid run defender as a starter in Philadelphia last season.

If it's a question of one of them making the team, I choose Anderson because of his potential and his contract. If it's a question of which one should be on the active roster, Adams is a no-brainer. He's better in coverage, a much better special teamer, and at least equal to Anderson against the run.

So you're going to remove one of them from active duty? If they're not active and not returning, those two aren't having on the roster at all. So again, you have to decide who is going inactive for the 8th DB.

 

He had one more tackle - that doesn't make either above average against the run. Diggs and Draft are above average against the run.
And yes, Adams has many things in his corner as a player. If he didn't he wouldn't have been vying for the starting job. I believe he's a very fine player. I just also wouldn't keep 3 WLB and would really prefer to have a guy who could start next year see the field some this year.

If you're asking me, I wouldn't have both on the roster. And whoever else would be on the roster, wouldn't be active. We generally keep 8 DB active. I don't see why that trend wouldn't continue, especially since Williams is a returner and Marshall can (and why he hasn't, especially PR, is beyond me).

 

Agreed, and if Adams doesn't make the roster then that's fine. But if he does, it makes no sense to have Anderson active. Adams is the significantly better player all-around.

That's cool too, but I think both will make the roster and if they do, they'll both be active as returners. If they are, it's hard to see where we'd take an extra active spot to give to an 8th DB we won't use anyway.
