Our defense is certainly in the top half of the league, maybe top ten. Our running game is among the best. Smith is one of the top playmakers in the league. As long as we can get solid play from our QB we should be a contender.

IMHO if we had started Matt Moore from day one we would have won at least 10 games last year probably more. The losses to Buffalo, Philly and the Jets are pretty squarely on Jake's shoulders.

I have no problem trading Gross. Last year proved that he's an interchangeable part.

Williams and Smith are two of the three guys we have who can score on any play. You don't just trade those guys for draft picks.

yeah, you don't try to trade away building blocks. Williams' contract status is problematic, I know. Tough shit, this is the NFL, worry about 2011 when it comes.

There aren't magical five year plans anymore. We have some talent. The problem isn't talent or a lack of it, necessarily, or coaching, or the QB deal. If you want a jump start, you trade off Peppers, otherwise you do what you can to build around him, Beason, the backs, Smith, and so on. There really isnt' anyone else you willfully part with if you want to be successful of guys who are in your long term plans.

There's just no reason to "rebuild".

It's tempting sometimes, but the team's body of work under Fox is still better than most franchises. The idea of trading players at the climax of their career (e.g. - Williams), I understand why it looks like a good idea, but it's a leap of faith. You know what you have in these players, but you never know what you'll get from a draft pick. It's easier top project how productive Williams and Smith will be three years from now as opposed to a college player.

We've seen this before, good season followed by a bad or average one. I see no reason to rebuild!

I do not really expect Moore to put up a QB rating of 98.5 if he plays the whole season but I think something solid in the low 80s is reasonable. If he does that we should win a lot of games and make the playoffs. Who knows from there. It is often about who gets hot at the end of the year.
