(Oct. 8, 2003) -- As we approach Week 6 in the NFL, I'd like to take a look at the undefeated teams and whether their records reflect fact or fiction.

    Carolina Panthers
Three of the four victories have come at home against teams that are nowhere near playoff caliber. Even the victory against Tampa Bay might be somewhat tainted; we saw what happened to the Buccaneers on Monday night.

While Carolina possesses a stout defense and one of the best free-agent pickups in Stephen Davis, the quarterback position is still a weak point. Coach John Fox doesn't want to re-live history. Last year the Panthers were everyone's early-season Cinderella team and then went on to an eight-game losing streak and fell out of favor. Carolina wins games by keeping it close and running the football. This team's offense doesn't scare anyone.

With little big-play-making ability, Carolina is bound to start losing games. This week it will play Indianapolis and next week against Tennessee. These games will give a much clearer perspective of what kind of team Carolina really is. In order to make a postseason run, quarterback Jake Delhomme will have to improve each and every week. At this point, this team is more fiction than fact.

    Fine.

Beat the Colts and there goes that theory.

Don't forget that NOBODY picked this team to do shit beside Peter King and Stuart Scott (that I know of). Most of these guys have made an about face. If we keep winning - you'll see not only everyone proven wrong - but you'll also see teams start immulating the Panthers style.

You mean the way that the Ravens won the Super Bowl? Yeah, I can see that. ;)

    Really?
    Top 5 rushing teams
    Baltimore 196.2 ypg
    Carolina 167.8 ypg
    Denver 165.2 ypg
    Minnesota 150.2 ypg
    Kansas City 144 ypg

Baltimore & Carolina have played 4 games. Denver, Minnesota, and KC have played 5.

But I agree we haven't beat anybody. 3 out 4 wins came against teams missing key players, and each are 1-4 on the season. Atlanta - Mike Vick, Jax - Jimmy Smith, and Saints - half the team.

I don't see the Panthers losing to the Titans though, regardless of what happens in Indy.

What the hell does Boomer know? He played for the Bungles and the Cards. How'd you like to put those 2 teams on your resume for experience? :D

    OKAY, NOW I'M PISSED

here's his take on the Dikes:
s this really a surprise? After coming off three consecutive victories at the end of the 2002 season, the Vikings were beginning to establish themselves as a power-running team. Yes, that is right. I said power-running football team.

When watching highlights, the clips tend to focus on the acrobatics of Randy Moss, but a closer look will show you this club starts on the ground first. Head coach Mike Tice spent the offseason improving his offensive line and has always preached the run should come first. If this team needs to run the clock out at the end of a game or take pressure off its quarterback, it's one of the few teams in the NFL that can run it at will. Combine that with Moss' explosive play and a schedule that features the Chargers, Lions, Bears and Cardinals, the Vikings -- barring any significant injuries -- are on their way to home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs. While the defense has improved, it's not in the same class as Baltimore and Tampa Bay. Even though the defense still has holes, this team is fact.

A power running team? And the Panthers aren't? Run at will? And the Panthers can't? While not the same class as Baltimore & Tampa? No mention of Carolina? Fuck Boomer

We'll see what the Dikes do without Moss eventually. They won't win.

Not to mention, the Panthers won their last 2 games last season and all 4 pre-season games this year.

Vikings were 1-3 in the pre-season.

I never liked Boomer anyway. Even his name is stupid.
